Lord Alarnatha Temple is located in Brahmagiri, Odisha, near Puri. It is a big tourist destination and a famous religious place for all Krishna Devotees. It is explained that in Satya Yuga, Load Brahma came and worshipped Load Vishnu here on the top of a hill, this hill is called Brahmagiri. One day Load Vishnu appeared and said, "I am very much pleased with your worship. Make a four armed Deity of me holding Shankha, Chakra, Gada and Padma. Since Alarnatha was earlier being worshipped by the Alwars of South India, He came to be known as Alvarnatha which later became Alalanatha.
It is said that Ramanujacharya, a great spiritual teacher in the Sri Sampradaya visited this temple in the past. At the feet of the Lord is Garuda with his hands folded in prayer. There are also small Deities of Rukmini and Satyabhama here. It becomes crowded during the krishnapaksha of Ashadha, after the Snana Yatra when lord Jagannath cannot be seen in Puri. During this period, popularly known as Anasara or 'Anavasara' (literally meaning no opportunity to see the lord of Puri), instead of having darshan in Jagannath Temple, peoples believe that Lord Jagannath during this time manifests as Alarnath Dev, at the Alarnath temple in Brahmagiri which is 23km away from puri.
