These are the places full of rock-cut architecture, art and religion. The two hills rise abruptly from the coastal plain, about six km west of Bhubaneswar, separated by a highway is a nice place to visit with your family. It looks like mini Ajanta Ellora caves and has a lot of historical value.
Udayagiri (Hill of Sunrise) :
Udayagiri is the hill on the right and access to its 18 caves is provided by a flight of steps. The largest and the most beautiful, Cave 1, Rani Gumpha or Queen's Cave, Hathigumpha (cave 14) and Ganeshagumpha (cave 10) are especially well known due to art treasures of their sculptures and reliefs as well as due to their historical importance.
Khandagiri (Broken Hills):
Khandagiri is at the opposite side of udayagiri,it has 15 no. of caves, from these. The Ananta cave (cave 3) is very well known for its carved figures of women, elephants, athletes, and geese carrying flowers. Digambara Jaina Temple is on the top of the khandagiri hills.
